One of the main aims of the ARPI project—alongside founding research centers at Tibetan Buddhist monastic institutions in South Asia and training Buddhist monk and nun scholars in pursuing modern academic (i.e. historical-philological) study of Tibetan Buddhist texts and ideas—has been to create an environment for fruitful exchange and collaboration between traditional and modern scholars from the western academia. Following the success of the conference “Birds as Ornithologists: Scholarship between Faith and Reason” conducted within the framework of the 3rd ARPI workshop at Namdroling Monastery (Mysore), a second international conference will take place within the framework of the 6th ARPI Workshop to be held at Shechen Monastry (Kathmandu) on March 9–11, 2019. The conference, will be the first event in which both western scholars and ARPI researchers will present their ongoing research.
