The workshop has been postponed due to the outbreak of the Corona virus.
The Khyentse Center and its members have in the past years focused, among other things, conducted several academic events concerning the topics “evolution of scriptures” and “formation of canons”—including the symposium “Cross-Cultural Transmission of Buddhist Text,” the hackathon “Hack Away at Tibetan Buddhist Texts,” the conference “Evolution of Scriptures, Formation of Canons,” among others—and likewise led various projects on related issues—including “Scholars and Scribes,” “An Examination of Variance” and “Doxographical Organisational Schemes,” both concerned with the para-canonical collection known as the rNying ma rgyud ’bum, “A Canon in the Making” concerned with the bsTan ’gyur, and most recently the BuddhaNexus database.
The event “Intellectual Networks, Evolution of Scriptures, Formation of Canons: Theoretical and Practical Considerations” aims at sheding light on the aspect of “intellectual network” in connection with the issues of “evolution of scriptures” and “formation of canons,” while discussing it from the point of view of related digital projects, on the one hand, and from the historical-philological point of view, on the other hand, and exploring ways to combine the two approaches.
Due to the outbreak of the Corona virus, the event has been postponed.
