Patterns of Intertextuality Workshop: Borrowing in Tibetan Buddhist Texts

The five-day workshop, organized by the Khyentse Center in collaboration with the Intellexus project and led by Orna Almogi and Dorji Wangchuk, is devoted to the phenomenon of intertextuality in Classical Tibetan Buddhist texts—primarily, though not exclusively, canonical and paracanonical ones. Combining theory and practice, the programme features presentations of individual case studies by members of the Intellexus project, the Academic Research Project Initiative (ARPI), and the Academic Research Consortium for Ancient Scriptures (ARCAS). It also includes a number of talks and discussions on the significance of intertextuality both for the study of the evolution and compositional history of scriptures and non-scriptures and for our understanding of the intellectual ecosystems in which they took shape. A range of methodological approaches, computational as well as historical-philological, is considered and illustrated with concrete examples.
