AI Workshop for ARPI & ARCAS Scholars

Organized by the Khyentse Center in collaboration with the Intellexus project and led by Kai Golan Hashiloni of Reichman University, this five-day workshop introduces participants to artificial intelligence through hands-on exercises and group work. It is designed especially for monastic scholars in the Academic Research Project Initiative (ARPI) and the Academic Research Consortium for Ancient Scriptures (ARCAS), and it aims to advance historical-philological studies of Buddhist texts in Classical Tibetan and to adapt them to the age of AI. Sessions cover the use of AI in daily life; computer vision and OCR for the digitization of Tibetan texts; large language models and prompt engineering; retrieval-augmented generation and agentic AI; and specific applications of AI in Buddhist studies and philology—all illustrated with examples drawn from the Intellexus project. Participants will leave with practical skills for applying AI tools directly in their own research, as well as a clear understanding of the possibilities and limitations of current AI systems.
