The four-day “AI Workshop for Tibetologists at the University of Hamburg,” organized by the Khyentse Center in collaboration with the Intellexus project and led by Andrea Cornelius and Kai Golan Hashiloni, introduces students and faculty staff at the Department of Culture and History of India and Tibet to artificial intelligence through a mix of theory, hands-on exercises, and group work. Sessions cover the foundations of machine learning and AI, computer vision and OCR for digitizing Tibetan texts, working with large language models and prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation and agentic AI, and applications of AI in Buddhist Studies and philology. All are demonstrated with examples from the Intellexus project. Participants leave with practical skills for applying AI tools directly in their own research and a significant theoretical understanding of the possibilities and limitations of current AI systems.
