17:00 April 14, 2021. Due to the coronavirus pandemic conducted online via Zoom.
The Buddhist Digital Resource Center recently launched its new web platform, the culmination of four years of intensive development. BDRC’s new platform is called BUDA (Buddhist Digital Archives) and was funded by a generous grant from the Robert H.N. Ho Family Foundation. BUDA was built from the ground up according to advanced standards-based technology and has many new features. Some of its immediately recognizable advances are the versatile image viewer, the etext reader, and a search engine that returns far less “noise” than the legacy site. This demonstration will provide practical instructions for BUDA’s main functions, introduce the new bibliographic model utilized on the platform, and also introduce the non-Tibetan content now available on BDRC. The development of BUDA is an outgrowth of the organization’s change of name of mission when TBRC (Tibetan Buddhist Resource Center) became BDRC in 2015. During this presentation there will be time to discuss BDRC’s digital preservation activities outside of the Tibetan Buddhist cultural sphere and to also provide updates on the growth of BDRC's Tibetan archive. To use BUDA please navigate to library.bdrc.io.
