In the present lecture an attempt will be made to discuss the metaphor and simile of
the milk of a lioness—that is, not those of a lion or lioness as such—as found mainly,
but not exclusively, in Indian and Tibetan sources. A particular attempt will be made
to be as comprehensive and representative as possible in the case of the occurrences
and employments of this metaphor/simile in Tibetan literature, so as to gain as broad
a picture as possible of the matter from both its diachronic and synchronic
perspectives. Nonetheless, despite efforts to cover as many varieties of Tibetan
literary genres as possible, owing to several factors, no claim of completeness can be
made.
