Dr. Yukiyo Kasai: Old Uyghur Buddhist texts and Donners

Besides building or reconstruction of temples or grottoes, the copying and printing of religious scriptures are one of the most important activities among Buddhists. This also applies for the Uyghurs, a Turkish speaking tribe, by whom Buddhism was earnestly worshipped since its introduction in the 10th century. Thus the production and distribution of the Old Uyghur Buddhist texts were strongly supported by the Uyghur Buddhists. In the lecture, the contributions of those Uyghur donners on the production of Buddhist texts are described based on texts found from Central Asia.
