17 June 2015

This talk will consider textual scholarship in the Indian Buddhist traditions, in particular the traditions of Tantric exegesis. It will present some evidence for the use of a variety of textcritical arguments, and for different treatments by commentators of variants found in manuscripts. The continuities, but also some of the differences, between traditional and modern textual scholarship will also be briefly examined.
