Tibetan literature has an exceptionally rich heritage in all fields of knowledge. In order to organize and provide access to this treasure trove, Tibetan Buddhist Resource Center (TBRC) has developed a system of three-fold access using the latest advances in information science and computing.
Tibetan texts are represented in a simple XML markup that mirrors the scanned published form. A separate taxonomical repository organizes the structure and topics (genres, keywords, folksonomical tags, etc.) for each text and its contents. The scanned source is archived and available in the search results. The resulting system provides the user with a wide variety of searchable access points for research, discovery and validation.
Jeff Wallman is the Director of Technology for TBRC. Jeff started with TBRC in the winter of 2002 and is using 10 years of industry experience in project management and engineering to help facilitate through technology the preservation of the vast richness of the Tibetan literary and religious traditions.
