Manfred Seegers
Manfred Seegers started studying Tibetan Buddhism as early as 1985 in independent institutions such as the “Kamalashila Institute” in Germany and the “Karmapa International Buddhist Institute” in New Delhi, India. In 2005, he began his studies at the Canterbury Christ Church University and after having completed the approved program of research on “The Lord of Teachings: The Life and Works of the Third Karma pa (1284–339)” in 2009 was awarded the degree of Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) in Theology and Religious Studies by the University of Kent. He then continued his study of Tibetan Buddhism at the University of Hamburg and in 2018 was awarded a Ph.D. degree, published in 2020. The title of his dissertation is “Transcending Delusion: The Third Karma-pa Rang-byung-rdo-rje’s Discourse on the Distinction between Perception (rnam shes: vijñāna) and Gnosis (ye shes: jñāna).” His Ph.D. investigates the rNam shes ye shes ’byed pa’i bstan bcos by the Third Karma-pa along with other works by the same author. His research interests lie in Tibetan Buddhist literature, with special focus on Buddhist philosophy, psychology, and art.
